# Desktop viewer: map view, surface, terrain and heights

> Put the orthophoto and elevation models on the map, read heights under the pointer, fade the layers.

Video: https://cloudodm.stellaris.cl/learn/desktop-map-en.mp4 — Toledo: Map and Ortho, the surface model with heights under the pointer, the terrain model, a street map under the faded layer, then contours.

## Open the map

1. Open an orthophoto, a surface model (DSM) and a terrain model (DTM), and choose Map in Display.
2. Drag to move the map, scroll to zoom where the pointer is, right-drag to zoom smoothly. Show chooses Ortho, DSM or DTM.

## Read heights

Hover over the map: the label beside the pointer gives the surface height, the terrain height, the height above ground between them, and the coordinates in the survey's own system. Heights are shown in your chosen unit — metres, feet or US survey feet — whatever unit the file is in.

Opacity fades the orthophoto, DSM or DTM over the street map. Contours draws lines from the elevation model at the interval and colour you choose.
